Get an Apple Developer Account
To submit an app to the App Store, you need to have an Apple Developer Account. You can enroll in the program by visiting the Apple Developer website and signing up for a new account. The cost of an individual account is $99 per year, but if you're part of a development team, you'll need to enroll in the company account, which costs $99 per year.
Create an App ID
Once you have an Apple Developer Account, you'll need to create an App ID (App Identifier). The App ID is a unique identifier for your app that you'll use throughout the submission process. You can create an App ID by logging into your Apple Developer account and navigating to the "Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles" section.
Build and Test Your App
Before you can submit your app to the App Store, you need to make sure it's built and tested. To do this, you can use Xcode, Apple's integrated development environment (IDE). Xcode provides tools for designing, building, and testing iOS apps. Before finalizing the app, use TestFlight to get feedback from Beta testers.
Prepare Your App for Submission
Before you submit your app to the App Store, you need to make sure it's ready for release. This includes creating a listing for your app, uploading screenshots and videos, and setting a price or making it available for free. The app will also need to be uploaded using one of the following tools: Xcode, altool, or Transporter.
Submit Your App
Once your app is ready, it's time to submit it to the App Store. You can do this by logging into your Apple Developer account, navigating to the "App Store Connect" section.
Wait for Approval
After you've submitted your app, it will go through a review process by Apple. This process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the complexity of your app and the current backlog of apps awaiting review. During this time, you can track the status of your app in the "App Store Connect" section of your Apple Developer account. For reference, the statuses are “Waiting for Review,” “In Review,” “Rejected,” and “Approved.”
Release Your App
Once your app is approved, it's time to release it to the App Store. You can do this by logging into your Apple Developer account, navigating to the "App Store Connect" section, and following the prompts to release your app. One important thing to note is that if you leave the default of “Automatically Release This Version,” then you don’t choose when the build goes live. You have to select “Manually Release This Version” or select “Automatically Release This Version After App Review, No Earlier Than ___” and provide a date.
Getting your app into the Apple App Store requires some work and patience, but the process is relatively straightforward. By following these steps, you can get your app in front of billions of iOS users and start building your user base. Good luck!
